This week's BTT:
Autumn is starting (here in the US, anyway), and kids are heading back to school – does the changing season change your reading habits? Less time? More? Are you just in the mood for different kinds of books than you were over the summer?
I live in the UK and as the nights draw in, the appeal of snuggling up with a good book definitely increases! In my head, I have a vision of a brightly burning fire, an engrossing read, a comfy chair and perhaps a blanket... I really must get around to buying that fireside chair!
In the summer (assuming it's ever actually sunny here, of course!) I do often take my book out into the garden but there's always distractions such as pulling a few weeds, snipping back new growth, getting out the trowel, small (hot) dogs sitting as close to me as they can or even hogging my rug... I find warmth very soporific and that doesn't often bode well for a concerted stint of reading in the sun, so I tend to listen to an audio book or short story on my nano and leave the book in the shade. Or enjoy a little snooze instead.
I always feel as if I should "make the most" of any sunshine we get as well and try to head out to a park/woods/beach with the dogs (and Mr B!) to enjoy a walk where you don't realise (yet again) why it's a bad idea to mix spaniels with moisture or plant growth. Looking out of the window now, this could well be one of those days.
Getting back to the actual question asked though, I don't think that the change of season alters what I would choose to read in any way. I have my teetering stacks of TBR books growing steadily throughout the year and plough through them in whatever order takes my fancy.

When you said "hot dog" I thought that you meant dachshund, so I took a peek and saw your pretty baby enjoying the sun. I agree, dogs pushing on you in the sun would be hot and too uncomfortable to be able to read for long.
Your last paragraph captures my feelings, too. There's enough variety built into my tbr pile that I always have a choice.
I think I'm one of the few whose moods do seem effected by the change in seasons.
I enjoyed reading your post. I feel the same way you do but you said it so much better.
I also love snuggling with my pooch during winter reading...but the warm snuggles make me sleepy, too. One could do worse, I suppose.
I agree with you. Seasons are just not a factor when I'm choosing my readin material.
I do seem to be affected by the seasons.
I totally agree about curling up by a fire with a cozy book and a nice chair!
I do find that if it's nice out that I read outside and if its rainy or cold I curl up in bed and read!
Since reading other replies to this question, I've decided that perhaps I do read more in winter (all that sport on TV gives me the perfect excuse to sneak off and indulge)! I also think that that perhaps the actual volume of books I read remains the same but the books themselves tend to be fatter.
I live in Oregon, and we have a lot of rain in the winter, so I can really relate to the idea of snuggling by a warm fire. Someday maybe we'll have a fireplace (when my boys are older).
I love your description of your ideal reading area. That's one of mine too, unfortunately, the weather here will never make fireside reading appealing. :D Though when it rains, how I love to snuggle up in bed and read!
I love to retreat to bed when I want to read in peace but somehow that always ends up in me having an accidental, and sometimes quite lengthy, nap! Which defeats the purpose of going to bed to read in the first place... Maybe that's just me though.
